WHY YOU SHOULD LEARN WITH A CERTIFIED KITESURFING SCHOOL IN DUBAI

So you are interested to learn kitesurfing, right?

Well, we can’t blame you for that.

You see, just watching those professional kitesurfers do their thing at the beach is such a beauty. And for sure, you don’t just want to stand there and become a spectator.

It’s such a great water sports adventure that you certainly don’t want to miss – the adrenaline rush, the excitement, and the overall experience of being with the wind and the ocean.

The thing is, you want to learn but you’re not sure which path to choose. When it comes to kitesurfing lessons, you have 4 options:

  1. Learn the skill on your own.
  2. Get lessons from a random dude that you met at the beach.
  3. Ask your friend who has “experience” with kitesurfing to teach you.
  4. Enroll in a certified kitesurfing school

Which one do you think is the best option?

Well, it turns out, the first three choices are very risky. You see,  kitesurfing is considered as an extreme watersport. And that means you shouldn’t take your lessons lightly if you want to be a skilled kitesurfer.

Here’s the thing. You could be risking your health and safety if you don’t take your lessons seriously. That’s why it is necessary to learn kitesurfing with a professional instructor if you want a safe entry into this sport.

WHY KITESURFING IS AN EXTREME SPORT?

Kitesurfing looks deceptively easy. But there’s more to this water sport than just flying kites. You have to consider different aspects of flying the kite and balancing your surfboard all at the same time. It’s like learning two sports all at once – board riding and kite flying.

Beginners have to learn to maneuver the kite by acquiring different sets of skills like power management techniques, knowledge of safety systems, and following the correct procedures in any given scenario.

In general, kitesurfing is a complex and very technical sport. It is considered extreme water sport because the dynamics of the kite can actually generate a huge amount of wind power which can easily lift you up into the air or even worse  drag you on the sand at  a dangerous speed. Ignoring these dangers can have serious consequences.

CAN I TEACH MYSELF TO KITESURF?

Most people who want to learn kitesurfing ask this question most of the time. And the answer is, probably yes.

But it’s not advisable.

You see, there’s a good reason why kitesurfing is considered an extreme water sport. Like what was mentioned earlier, there are different aspects of handling the kite and your surfboard that you need to master. And it takes a lot of effort to get through these skills.

Learning the sport on your own will eat up a lot of your time doing trial and error. Not to mention the dangers of flying the kite on your own and maneuvering the kite amidst the strong winds.

Yes, of course, there are a lot of available books and free videos on the internet about the topic but it’s totally different when you’re there doing it by yourself and trying to practice what you learned on youtube for example!

It’s like driving a car for the first time in a busy street without someone beside to guide you.

Most likely, you’ll get into trouble or accident and there’s no one else to give you advice on what to do next on a particular situation.

CAN I ASK A FRIEND TO TEACH ME?

Good question. Most likely, you got interested into kitesurfing because one of your friends are into this sport. Although is not bad at all to ask a friend to teach you, there are certain situations that may strain your relationship.

Let me explain…

If you are a beginner, there’s a greater chance that you’ll stumble and get into accident. That’s unavoidable. Even the best kitesurfers got into trouble when they were starting.

Now, you might tell yourself and your friend that you won’t get mad if you get hurt while practicing.

But that’s easier said than done.

As soon as you start getting frustrated when you experience some failures and occasional accidents (which inevitable if you’re not taking lessons with a pro), tensions will rise and you’ll soon start blaming your friend or your friend will be blaming your slow understanding of the stuff he wants to teach you and soon you both will run out patience this is because you are friends!

Your emotions will take over and you’ll soon have strained relationship. And that’s not good if you want to take this sport seriously. Kitesurfing was designed to make people happy and enjoy the life in the ocean, not to get grumpy and start to hate people.

And I’m not stopping there…

You still have to consider the qualification of your friend who will teach you. What makes him qualified to teach you a risky and very complex water sport?

A beginner like you won’t be able to discern if your friend is teaching you the right technique.

You see, there are many examples of wrong information about kitesurfing being passed along everyday. Methods that are far too risky to implement.

You might be having this impression that you’re being thought the right technique where in fact, it’s the wrong thing to do.

CAN I GET LESSONS FROM A RANDOM DUDE?

This is far more riskier than asking your friend to teach you.

Why?

That’s because you don’t know that person.

When you try to learn kitesurfing from a freelancer,  you’re like gambling at high risk. As a beginner, you’re clueless if you are being thought the right technique. You don’t know if the information being passed to you is correct or not!

Sure, you might get lucky and be able to find a random dude at the beach who knows a lot about the sport. But that’s very rare thing to happen.

You still have to check if that person is qualified to teach in the first place. Did they receive proper training from a certified organization? Are they experienced enough to teach? Or did they just learn how to kitesurf just a few weeks ago?

Unfortunately, more and more people that you meet at the beach think that they are qualified to teach. And that’s very dangerous.

Why is that?

That’s because knowing how to kitesurf is totally different from knowing “how to teach” a person to kitesurf. That’s when you can differentiate a certified instructor from someone who is just a practitioner of the sport.

WHY YOU NEED TO LEARN FROM A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR?

Simple. Peace of mind.

Here’s what I mean…

When you learn kitesurfing from a certified instructor, you are confident that what they are teaching you is legitimate.

You are assured that the instructor was able to complete a known training program that is being implemented and certified by the international kiteboarding organization. Which means, the information being thought to you is the standard method and it follows a correct sequence.

A certified instructor uses a checklist of techniques and training methods which are tried and tested. It’s a structured lesson that is designed to help the student learn the sport in a systematic way. This way, you’ll be able to acquire your skill gradually and efficiently.
