WING FOILING IN DUBAI

Wing foiling known even as wing surfing has been around in Dubai for 2 years but it has started in other parts of the world since the 1980s and has recently come into the same light as kite surfing and wind surfing with its growing popularity worldwide. Wing surfing combines the use of an inflatable handheld wing and the use of a SUP board or SUP foil board. It’s all about riding the wind and having fun.

Wing surfing is mainly done with a SUP foil board but can also be used with a SUP board. If you have never done either of these activities, it’s not a problem you will be introduced to both sports during your lessons. Having some previous experience will help with the progression however if not all of these will be covered in the wing surf lessons.

There is no specific level of fitness required to start wing surfing however a general level of fitness and arm strength may help with your progression. Usually, the size of the wing and the board size are in the proportion of the rider’s weight and for sure they depend too on the Wind speed.

Wing Surfing just like any water sport that’s wind depending for example kite surfing and windsurfing it requires some lessons if you are a complete beginner and never tried the sport before. Experienced riders wanting to progress from a regular SUP to SUP foil board we have all the packages available for you too. If you are a complete beginner and interested in doing the sports lessons is essential for all the safety know-how, wind theory, and procedures that are covered in the lessons. Experience is always needed when renting wing surf equipment from our school.

We are one of the few schools in the UAE to have started doing wing surfing lessons however there are numerous kite schools all around the world that have now started doing lessons with wing surf. When picking a destination to go and learn wing surfing you should do some research on what type, of course, the different schools have to offer in that country.

When doing wing surfing lessons with our school all the equipment is provided for the lesson from sup boards to wings and life jackets. All we recommend is to wear something that you are comfortable with on the beach and in the water.

Just like kitesurfing, the first session of wing surfing is conducted on land in 7– 12 knots of wind learning how to control the wing as well how to power up and depower the wing. The most important thing to learn is the basics of flipping the wing if you need to recover in the water how to get back on your sup board when you fall off, how to paddle down on your chest while the wing is attached to you.

When doing your first water start will be using a big paddleboard which will provide you with a lot more stability. This will help with your progression and maximize your learning time instead of tiring you out with the use of a small board. The lessons on the water will start on your knees and will help you focus more on the control of the wing than having to balance on the board. The next step be it the most obvious will be standing up with the wing.

Once you have enough practice with the wing on a regular SUP board and your instructor sees your progression this is when you will go to the next step of the SUP foil board.
